Other tidbits to note about peoria:
--Peoria is the oldest community in illinois. Abraham lincoln came to visit, too.
-- The famous phrase "Will It Play In Peoria" is widely believed to have been first coined by Groucho Marx. the phrase "Will it play in Peoria" started during the vaudeville era. The belief was that if a new show was successful in Peoria, it would work anywhere.
-- when Teddy Roosevelt visited Peoria in the early 1900s, they took him to see Grand View Drive. actually, they took him to see the unnamed road, and then he named it that, saying it was the "world's most beautiful drive," and that it had a "grand view."
-- Peoria is the world headquarters of Caterpillar. They make tractors, etc. They own their own color (CAT yellow), have an internal bank to loan out money to small countries who need tractors, and send their interns to etiquette class. Their presence here, while generally wonderful, also puts peoria onto the top-15-places-to-get-bombed-in-the-USA-first, if it comes to that. Don't worry, though. it hasnt yet.
