it usually isnt the plan for most girls to marry a guy thats not specifically tall.
however, i have come to believe that there are many benefits to this state of affairs (jed not being specifically tall, i mean) and i wanted to offer them up as encouragement to anyone who might need a testimony to this fact.
1. I have grown up with 3 sisters, and a mother (and my father, of course). Clothes sharing is absolutely inevitable, and what a beautiful thing that is. When i went to college, there was still clothes sharing! When most girls get married, they have to give this up, for the most part--their guy's clothes just swallow them whole, rendering them mostly useless for wearing to places. however, a few select pieces of jed's clothing (sweaters generally) fit me absolutely wonderfully. I won't double my wardrobe when we get married, but i definately have a few new options to choose from. the second best part? he cant borrow mine back. :)
2. being quite near the same height virtually eliminates the need to have two different car-seat-driving-settings. i have watched many people throughout my life get in their car after their spouse drives it, and either not be able to reach the pedals, or bumping their knees on the steering wheel, not to mention the mirror situation. luckliy for us, we like things about in the same place. no knee-bumping for us.
3. men who are on the shorter side seem to have to compensate for it in other areas, ive heard. they might be exceptionally smart, very strong, or especially good at one, or many things. this is not a bad thing.
4. jed has told me time and again that he doesnt care if i want to wear heels or whatever. and i still do. but i generally might be more prone to flats now, just because i might be a teensy bit more self-conscious. (unnecessary, i know. i know.) but: good news for me! flats pretty much force you into looking that much more like audrey hepburn, and thats never a bad thing for anyone, in my opinion. yay.
(jed edited to add: plus, it might get her into some more sensible shoes, once in a while, instead of those weird heel things that hurt your feet and mess up your back)
5. the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
6. The whole umbrella sharing issue seems like its been working out alright so far. You know how you can never share an umbrella very effectively with someone who is a totally different height? weeellllllll, that problem is solved. this is very good news, because i might melt if i get too rained on.
